"Duets" by Peter Quilter
Director: Michael Terry
"Duets" is made up a quartet of plays looking at relationships.
Each play is a two hander.
Duet 1. 'Blind Date' with Wendy & Jonathan
Both have dressed for their first date but have dressed badly.
They are hoping to get it right this time even though they've
never got it right before.
Duet 2. 'Secretarial Skills' with Barrie & Janet
Barrie is gay but not camp.
Barry is not really interested in women,
but Janet sees that is no reason to stop trying.
Duet 3. 'The Holiday' with Shelley & Bobby
Shelley and Bobby are going to get divorced but the holiday
in Spain is paid for, so why not still go and drown your sorrows
in booze.
Duet 4. The Bride-to-be' with Angela & Toby
Angela is getting married for the third time to the dismay
of her brother Toby, amidst a barrage of bad omens and a dress
resembling a disaster area, will it happen?

Well at last we can start rehearsing. This time of year has always been
difficult to get cast together and so it proved, I was unable to have a
full read though with the cast due to holiday and work commitments.
I did manage to get together with Roy (set) Richard (lights) and Aisling
(AD/ASM) to work out the set. The difficulty comes as 'Duets' is made up
of four short plays each taking place in a different living space.
Well I think we've solved the problem, all we need now are people to help
build it. Last Sunday there were only three, this week it looks like two;
there is a job you can do even if it's taking off that lovely wallpaper.
We intend moving over to a weekday soon, so let us know if you are able to help.
We also had our first rehearsal. I am rehearsing the plays separately.
On Monday we had Fin and Alan (I must stop thinking of them as Fin and
Haddock) who are the cast of 'The Holiday', we were able to block it,
look at what we had found out about their characters, the obvious and
what may be hidden in the subtext.
We were also able to look at the characters back stories. I firmly believe
that if you know where the character has come from and how he arrived at
this moment in time you have a better understanding of them and your
performance will be more rounded and believable.
Next rehearsal dates
Thursday 7th. 2.30 Rachel & Ric – 'Secretarial Skills'
Thursday 7th 7.30 Wendy & Richard – 'The Bride-to-Be'
Wednesday 13th 7.30 Elaine & David - 'Blind Date'
Anyone is welcome to come along to a rehearsal and watch the process,
would suggest you ring me first on 01395 442635 as things do change.

Well the set is up and now needs painting, so if you can help let David Holt
or I know and we can let you know when we are down at the Playhouse,
Sofa's we are no nearer than my last blog. So if you have a two seater sofa
or know of someone who has one that they are willing to lend us let me know.
Alternately if you can spare some time and better still have the use of a van
or large estate car we can go and sort some out.
Rehearsals are going well and all the actors are developing some interesting
characters. The laughs are beginning to come and I have no doubt that the
audience will love the plays.
Next rehearsal dates, you are more than welcome to come and watch.
Monday 1st 7.30 Fin & Allan in The Holiday & David & Elaine in Blind Date
Tuesday 2nd 7.30 Wendy & Richard in The Bride to Be
Wednesday 3rd 2.30 Rachel & Ric in Secretarial Skills
More to come I hope
